Hallmark Mini Memories

HALLMARK MINI MEMORIES, the details will steal you're heart!

My personal FAVORITE Hallmark Collectible is the MINI MEMORIES figurines.

NEVER HEARD OF THEM? You're not alone.. They are SO RARE that most Hallmark collectors are not familiar with them, and very few have had the opportunity to see a complete collection. I collected Hallmark for nearly 20 years before I learned of (& fell in love with) with these tiny little works of art!

They were test marketed by Hallmark for just three months in 1987 in just 20 test stores. Each store received only TWO of each the tiny 20 Mini Memories figurine designs.
This makes them truly one of the most rare Hallmark collectibles ever made.

They're rare, but what makes them so special? The delicate designs and detailed workmanship. Much of that charm and tiny detail that I love, made them very fragile.
BREAKAGE, was the problem. Mini Memories were never put into mass production and distributed nationwide due to the high level of breakage.

MIni Memories designs look familiar to Tender Touch collectors. They were the predecessors of Tender Touches figurines which were introduced and tested in 1988. All were sculpted by popular Hallmark Artist, Ed Seale.

Every collector of Mini Memories is undoubtedly also a collector of Tender Touches. Part of the fun of having both is comparing the differences, seeing how Mini Memories designs evolved into the larger Tender Touches line.. When placed side by side, design differences are immediately apparent in both color, size, and many details. For example the RACOONS FISHING was produced as a Mini Memories with blue glossy water, an all blue base. NO bobber on fishing line, bucket is silver with NO handle. The Tender Touches version adds grass and stones at back of dock, dark gray bucket with silver rim & handle, and a bobber.

Another rare Mimi Memories collectible is the DISPLAY HOUSE Hallmark designed and shipped to the test stores to hold the figurines. This heavy wooden house is complete with an attic and red-shingled roof. There is a removable/adjustable shelf for each tiny figurine to sit on. Of the 20 test market stores to which this House was shipped, its hard to say how many are still out there. I was thrilled to find one for my personal collection a few years ago and treasure it as well as the tiny little figures that "live" inside.

I believe Hooked on Ornaments is the only website on the internet that has Hallmark Mini Memories available...just click here to take
a look at more available designs and and perhaps purchase one of these little treasures for yourself!

Enjoy and Happy Collecting, Nicki

Hallmark Gift of Love
In the 2003 Hallmark Ornament Dreambook the Gold Crown Events section indicated that three special "Mystery" ornaments would be available to club members.Glad Tidings was unveiled at the Ornament Premiere. This lovely angel dressed in gold came with her own display stand and she holds a star. Gift of Peace was unveiled at Ornament Debut. This angel came dressed in silver. Like the Glad Tidings angel she has her own display stand which matches the Glad Tidings display stand.
There was also a CLUB ornament - Gift of Love - that was only available for purchase by Keepsake Ornament club members. VERY few club members ordered the ornament, probably at least partially due to the fact that no picture of the item was ever shown and the only mention of the ornament was in the 2003 Dreambook. The Gift of Love ornament matches the Glad Tidings and Gift of Peace ornaments. This angel wears a red dress and holds a heart.
Production numbers were very small for the ornament due to the low number of club orders. It is very difficult to find. When we were working on the Hallmark Value Guide we had a very difficult time even locating someone who owned the ornament.
The picture above shows the three ornaments displayed together. The miniature Presents of Angels, set of six ornaments hang from the display stands.

EARLY EASTER 2008

OH ....HURRY The Easter Bunny is hopping early this year! It's time to put on your Easter Bonnet and start decorating! Do you realize just HOW early Easter is this year? It's March 23! The earliest Easter can ever be is March 22. It can be as late as April 25th.

As you may know, Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20 this year). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around in date on our Roman based calendar.

It's amazing...This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! None of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier! Here's some facts:
  • The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2160 (152 years from now).
  • The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that!).
  • The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now).
  • The last time it was on March 22 was 1818.Thus, no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year, but the odds improve for witnessing a LATE Easter. Many people are still around from the last time Easter fell on April 25. That was in 1943. And many here today will likely be around to celebrate the next "latest day possible" Easter on April 25,2038.

    HAPPY EASTER!

Commemorative Stars
I wasn't really sure what to talk about today and was struggling to decide on a topic that would be fun and interesting. While working on another project I dug out an old issue of "For Keeps" (the Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Club publication.) After rereading the article, I thought it would fun to post the information and pictures here as I am sure there are a lot of collectors who have never seen the article or the pictures.

(Above sculpted from left to right by - Joyce Lyle, Linda Sickman, & Anita Marra Rogers)

In 2002 Hallmark presented a challenge to the Hallmark Keepsake artists to sculpt a star. Thirteen sculptors and Beth Wall submitted their one of a kind creations which were unveiled in the Summer 2002 "For Keeps" publication. Only three of the stars were actually produced as ornaments and those three were only available for purchase to Keepsake Ornament Club members.

The ornaments were not boxed, but each came in its own special fabric drawstring pouch. These last three are the only three that were actually produced as ornaments. (The artist is listed underneath each image.) Produced in limited quantities they were available for a very limited time.

Top Ten Hallmark Ornament Series
by Nicki Pierce

A newspaper reporter recently asked me to prepare a list of the Top Ten Hallmark Ornament Series. I found it difficult to narrow it down to just ten, so I "combined" some of the series. The following list highlights some of the Highest Demand ornaments we see at Hooked on Ornaments:

F
rosty Friends...
Hallmarks Longest running series began in 1980 and continues today. The #1 Frosty Friends ornament is truly NUMBER ONE with collectors and in the box sells for over $500.

Nostalgic Houses and Shops...
A series that is often displayed on wreaths, mantles as well as Christmas Trees nationwide, it has been popular since 1982
and continues to be hot today.

Mary's Angels...
Collectors have been endeared to these little angels starting with #1 Buttercup in 1988, and still LOVE THEM today.

Puppy Love & Mischievous Kitten...
Who doesn't love a puppy or a kitten? A little Cocker Spaniel on a candy cane started the hugely popular puppy love series in 1991 and it continues to be highly popular today.
The Mischievous Kitten series began in 1999. These darling kittens continue to amuse collectors today with playful antics.

Beauty of the Birds...
In 2005, the Northern Cardinal the first in this series seemed to be off to a slow start. That quickly changed in 2006 when the #2 Black Capped Chickadee was introduced. Today the Northern Cardinal is soaring, commanding prices over $100.

Carousel Ride...
A new series introduced by Hallmark in 2004, the #1 Lion was overproduced but enjoyed by many. Production was reduced for the 2005 #2 in the series Proud Giraffe causing prices to skyrocket. Today, the Proud Giraffe is very proud indeed as he sells for over $150. & prices continue to climb.

Barbie...
The 1993 introduction of Barbie in the Hallmark ornament line was the start of something big. Grandma's and Moms worldwide enjoy buying Barbie ornaments for themselves as well as their little girls and the number of Barbie's Hallmark has offered now exceeds 100!

Sky's the Limit and Lionel...
Plane and Train enthusiasts love these two Hallmark series. The Sky's the Limit planes began in 1997 and prices in this series often soar to over $50. each.
The die cast Lionel trains are full of detail and are hugely popular.

Star Trek and Star Wars...
Collectors can't get enough Star Trek and Star Wars ornaments.
The ships and characters are popular Worldwide with the 1991 Starship selling for over $200 in today's market.

Sports Character Series...
Name your favorite sport and Hallmark has probably created an ornament for you. Baseball, hockey, Nascar, football, famous name player ornaments adorn many collectors trees!
